How to read this map
Work in progress. This map is not exhaustive. It shows the result of our research so far and it grows with every release; every node on it rests on a public source. If something is missing or wrong, use Correct in the node panel or the Contribute page.
Every circle is a business, every dashed circle a person documented in a public role, every square a place or institution: a plaza or parcel, a street or crossing, a civic body, an organisation, an event or a press recognition. Colour is the layer of the place. Gold rings mark the four anchor markets named on Detection #2. Node size follows how connected a node is, so the nodes that hold the district together stand out on their own.
Lineage lays the district out on a timeline, left to right by the year each node enters, with each layer in its own lane. Network lets the connections pull the map into clusters, which is where you see what the district is held together by: the grocers and the plazas rather than any single famous address, and, between the businesses and the civic layer, the one reported recognition act of 2015. 3D lets the same network settle in three dimensions. Cities puts everything on the street itself at parcel scale: the western anchor at NW 167th Street and North Miami Avenue, the 167th cluster, and the strip running east along 163rd Street toward the Intracoastal, with the gaps between the clusters drawn as they are. Everything with a documented link but no address in the district sits in a cluster off the frame.
Play runs the timeline as an animation: the district accretes year by year around its grocers, and the two night markets of December 2025 and May 2026 arrive as the first recognition events. A business enters at its founding year, taken from Sunbiz or the county business tax receipt, and a person at their first documented activity. A node with no recorded founding year enters at the first year the map documents it, never earlier, and its panel says so under Placed at; a node with no dated link at all enters at the cutoff year.
Solid lines are businesses, capital and recognition moving through places: a business located in a plaza, an entity opening a location, a relocation, a second location, an earlier business at the same address, a related venture, an organiser producing an event. Dashed lines are influence, used only where a business or organisation has itself said it followed another. Dotted lines are programmes and licences, appearances in events and press guides, collaborations and sponsorships. Click any node and the panel on the right tells its story and lists every connection; Trace lineage lights up everything upstream and downstream of it.
Scope and rules. The map covers the Asian commercial district along NE 163rd Street and NE 167th Street in North Miami Beach as Detection #2 draws it, with the plazas that hold the businesses, the streets and crossings, the civic bodies and programmes, the community organisations, the events and press that recognise it, the closed predecessors and manufactured districts that precede it, and the chains, parents and sponsors outside the corridor with a documented link into it. A business is on the map when the county business tax record or Sunbiz shows it operating and a documented link of one of the relationship types exists. A plaza's street address is an attribute, not an edge, and so is a routine business licence, because every business holds one and the edge would carry no information. A person appears only when they are a public figure or documented in press or public records in that role; no owner of a small business is named from a corporate filing alone, and no family relationship between owners is mapped. Hub regions are the western anchor, the 167th cluster, the 163rd Street east strip, outside the corridor, and a location not recorded cluster for nodes whose sources give no address.
Current cases. The anchor grocer mechanism, the night market as recognition trigger, the built anchor against the organic cluster, and the North Miami counter case are singled out in the sidebar because each shows a different mechanism by which a district assembles itself and gets seen. A case is featured only when it rests on at least one official source, an independent source for any historical or superlative claim, a date, a defined relationship or event, a separation of completed from announced activity, and no reliance on private communications. Node size and centrality are computed from the dataset and are never adjusted for a case.
Evidence. Data are current through . Activity after that date is described as announced or scheduled, never as completed. Each node carries a confidence grade and source ids in its panel: High means an official record or two independent sources; Medium means a reference entry or a single press report; Low means a detail still flagged as unverified. Connection counts and betweenness are computed on this dataset, with every edge type weighted equally, and describe position in the map, not sales or importance. Placer figures appear only as published on the Detection #2 page. Nothing from private visits, contacts or messages is cited.
