The counter case. North Miami's council approved Resolution 2016-20 on 23 February 2016, designating sixteen blocks of NW 7th Avenue and calling the city the first in Florida to officially develop a Chinatown; the site had about 1,275 Asian residents in a corridor that was largely Black and Haitian. What followed is documented in press: a 200,000 dollar spend including a 47,500 dollar China trip, a 175,000 dollar Keith and Schnars master plan approved by the CRA in November 2017 with two gateways and a 5 million dollar infrastructure pledge, a 60 million dollar project estimate in 2018, a gateway arch groundbreaking planned for 2019, Sunkist Grove residents' opposition, and a decision in August 2020 to set the plan aside indefinitely. No source reports the gateway built; a 2022 statement says the name would change, and the 2025 corridor programme is a 1 million dollar facade and streetscape grant that does not mention Chinatown. The AP reported in August 2016 that an unofficial Chinatown about thirty blocks away, on 163rd Street, already drew the customers.
